Abstract Environmental barrier coating (EBC) materials that are resistant against molten calcia-magnesia-aluminosilicate (CMAS) corrosion urgently required. Herein, multicomponent rare-earth (RE) disilicate ((Yb 0.2 Y Lu Sc Gd ) 2 Si O 7 , (5RE) was investigated with regard to its CMAS interaction behavior at 1400 °C. Compared the individual RE disilicates, material exhibited improved resistance attack. The dominant process involved in of reaction-recrystallization. A dense and continuous reaction layer protected substrate from rapid high temperatures. results demonstrated strategy species can provide a new perspective development promising EBC resistance.
